Music school certainly did not teach me everything there is to know about playing jazz and a dozen other genres on tuba, let alone using amplification, working as a freelancer in all kinds of situations, and most importantly, enriching people's lives with music. In fact, it's only after leaving music school that I really could learn what I wanted, at my own pace and in my own way. I'm in no way done learning. But through my extensive work experience, I have gathered enough knowledge to start sharing it in a meaningful way. The more perceptive may have noticed that playing jazz doesn't seem to make a big part of what I do. That is indeed the case; why then 'jazz lessons'? The reason for that is this: for me, the word jazz does not necessarily imply genre-related boundaries; instead, it represents a point of departure that I experienced at a specific time in my life; the moment of realisation, a realisation that happened on a rational, as well as on an emotional level: that I love to be involved with music and its creation; that I feel passionate about it enough to pursue it professionally. And if I manage to empower you, the student, to experience a similar realisation, then I will have succeeded in doing something meaningful. I have devised three rounded courses, each focusing on specific topics and with distinct lesson plans that let you pick your starting point. During live one-on-one video sessions, we will perform exercises and analysis, discuss theory and principles, help you build confidence and track your improvement. Sessions take place online from my Slovenia studio using professional audio and video equipment. The recommendation for each course is 12 one-hour sessions, performed weekly or at your desired pace. These are the three course tiers you can choose from depending on your starting point and your goals: 🎼The Fundamentals - Breath support - Producing a centered, reliable tone - Building a practice routine - Scales and chords - Timing and rhythm - Best choice for those who want to make sure to cover the fundamentals of playing 🎼The Intervals - Controlled dynamics across the full register - Extending the playing range - Phrasing, articulation and tone texture - Jazz studies: melodies, bass lines, history - Improvisation, harmony, part/lead sheet reading and writing - Microphones and amplification - Best choice for those who have already performed solo or with a band and want to expand their skills 🎼The Overtones - Extended playing techniques (circular breathing, multiphonics, effects, looping) - Stylistic approach (walking bass, groove, genre and player specifics) - Skill transfer from other instruments (acoustic/electric bass, piano, guitar, voice, etc.) - Approaches to studio recording and live performance - Musical direction - Best choice for experienced players, professional or amateur, who are driven to explore all that the tuba has to offer, and then some!
